P-47D Thunderbolt Revell plastic kit in 1/72nd scale in the model box look

This Revell plastic model aircraft kit of the bubble top P-47D-30 Thunderbolt is made to 1/72nd scale.
The kit contains five sprues of components, four silver coloured polystyrene sprues and one clear sprue with a two part cockpit canopy. Moulding quality is excellent with virtually no sink evident on this example of the kit and only a few parts exhibiting a little flash.

The model exhibits superb fine detailing surpassing most other kits of this scale I have come across. The finely recessed panel lines are first rate work, and will enable a superbly detailed model to be built from this kit .

The wings are moulded in four pieces. These slot into the fuselage sides with substantial rectangular locating pins which makes it virtually impossible to mess up the dihedral angle on this kit. The wings dry fit together well.

The Thunderbolt's fuselage is nothing short of a work of modelling art. Excellent detailing and accuracy and the sides match up a treat. The cowl is moulded separately to the main fuselage sides and the entire fin is moulded onto one fuselage side.

In the picture to the left you can see the sprue containing most of the bits and pieces for the Thunderbolt. The cowling is here as is a well moulded 4 blade prop and the double wasp radial engine moulded in two rows with high detail. The undercariage is also well done with good detail both on the gear itself and in the wheel bay area.

The cockpit is well appointed with details on this fine model. A great instrument panel is provided in the kit as well as a seat with harnesses moulded on, a joystick and a detailed cockpit floor. The Thunderbolt's fuselage sides also have some internal details moulded in.
The last of the silver sprues is a small moulding which contains the loadout options for this P-47 model.

The clear cockpit canopy is moulded in two halves so it's no problem to have an open canopy to show off the cockpit interior on this model plane. Once again the quality of the canopy is great, it comes in a plastic bag to save it getting damaged in the box as well.

A large decal sheet is included with markings for a USAAF aircraft and a French example of the Thunderbolt. These decals look to be well done in my opinion, though I haven't applied them yet. If you decide to add all the decals to your Thunderbolt you will be kept busy for some time as Revell's attention to detail is extreme!

In conclusion then this kit of the P-47 Jug is top notch. Detail is A1 as is the moulding quality and general accuracy. I look forward to putting the mighty jug together when I get a wee bit of free time and will add some more wear and tear to the keyboard when it's done.
