P-51b Mustang Kit

Revell kit of the P-51b Mustang with RAF markings.

Another late 1990s Revell kit, this time of the P-51b Mustang. The model kit comes on two main sprues, one smaller sprue for the underwing stores and a small clear sprue which carries a single piece canopy.

The mustang kit has recessed panel lines throughout, all of which are very finely engraved. Some recessed and nicely done rivet detail is also present on the mouldings (don't thing vintage 1960s Airfix, this rivet detail is spot on in my opinion).
The model's wing consists of the usual lower one piece lower wing moulding with two separate upper halves. The wing has nicely detailed wheel wells and is cleanly moulded with no flash or sink.
The fuselage sides are highly detailed for a kit of this scale, and include some moulded in cockpit detail on the inside surfaces.
The canopy on my kit is of reasonable quality, though not as good as the rest of the kit.

In the cockpit you get a nice pilot seat, detailed joystick and an instument panel with raised dials and a decal. These parts all fit onto a long cockpit floor component.
The four blade prop need assembling on this aircraft, the four blades being fitted to a hub before the spinner is attached.

The wheels look pretty nice with much detail and a diamond cut tread pattern. Undercarriage doors are detailed on their inner surface and look about thin enough I reckon.

The underwing stores all look good and come on a separate small sprue.

This kit is of the RAF Mustang mk3 and comes with a decal sheet covering two examples of the aircraft. The sheet looks in fine register, and if my other recent Revell model kits are anything to go by they should go on well over a coat of Klear.

Better view of the fuselage sides, one side showing the inner surface.
