The Galaxy in action

The C-5 Galaxy is amongst the largest planes in the world. Wings on this massive military transport aircraft span nearly 223ft, length measures over 247ft and it stands 65.1ft high.
Internally the cargo bay measures 13.5ft high, 19ft wide, and almost 144ft long.
Power is provided by four General Electric TF-39 jet engines each one of which is able to produce 43,000 pounds of thrust.
The maximum all up takeoff weight is 840,000 lbs of which 270,000 lbs can be carried cargo.

Galaxies can be loaded both from the front and rear thus enabling fast and efficient turnarounds at bases. They are capable of carrying bulky items such as military mobile bridges etc to anywhere in the world. Unrefueled range is over 2000 miles.
C-5 Galaxies serve in the USAF Air Mobility Command alongside C-17 Globemaster III and C-141 Starlifter transports.
